Vacation Package Highlights
Day 1: Pick up from airport – Transport to Cuenca through Las Cajas National Park
When your TAME flight lands at 12:15 pm in Guayaquil, Live the Life will be there upon your arrival. From the airport, we will drive to the beautiful historic city of Cuenca (~3 hours).
The drive takes us directly through Las Cajas National Park, and we will be sure to stop along the way to admire some of the marvelous panoramic views. Upon arrival to Cuenca, we will check into our hotel and enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the famous restaurants in the area.
Day 2: Optional morning hike to Turi, Cuenca City Tour
Famous for being the world’s #1 retirement destination, and the “little Europe of South America” Cuenca is a favorite destination among expats.
In the morning, there will be an optional hike to the lookout of Turi which overlooks the entire city. Bring your camera because the views are breath-taking! In the afternoon, a city tour on a double-decker bus will show you the best sites that the city has to offer. Spots include Calderon Park, the new and old cathedrals, the world’s best open-air flower market, the modern art museum, the Panama hat factory, the Pamapungo archaeological site, the beautiful Tomebamba river, along with a stop in Turi for those who didn’t get the chance to take advantage of the morning hike.
We will spend the night in Cuenca, and you will have the opportunity to explore the city to your liking and try some decadent cuisine of the area.
Day 3: Transport to Yunguilla – falls of Giron along the way – check into The Lodge
Morning of day three will transport to the Yunguilla Valley, which sits about 45 minutes south of Cuenca. Here, the climate is warmer, the views are bigger, and the air is fresher. Along the way, we will stop in the town of Giron where we will see a beautiful waterfalled named “El Chorro.” Arrival to the falls is only about a 5-minute walk. However, there is an option for more experienced hikers.
After the falls we will arrive at the Live the Life Lodge in the town of Lentag. Here you can enjoy delicious organic juices from El Toro Bar, get a massage from our professional masseuse, take advantage of the pool, sauna and hot tub, or relax and soak in the views.
Day 4: Real estate tour & food forest and coffee farm visit
On day four, we will take a tour of some of the best investment properties that are available in the Yunguilla Valley area. This tour will allow you to learn about real estate and buying procedures, as well as ask any questions you may have about living in Ecuador. We will discuss the real estate economy, property registration, low property taxes, interest rates, North American bubbles, North American debt, health care, and quality of life.
During the tour, we will visit a food forest and coffee farm where we will get to see many of the different fruits and vegetables that Ecuador produces in addition to learning about how authentic Ecuadorian coffee is grown and processed. While on the farm you can eat as many fruits and vegetables as you’d like, as well as bring a few back with you to prepare your very own delicious dinner.
In the evening, put your chef’s hat on because it’s your turn to cook a fantastic meal! By using the fresh produce that you picked earlier, along with guidance from our team, we will make a fabulous meal together that is 100% fresh. You’ll be amazed by the explosion of flavor!
Day 5: Morning in Yunguilla, transport to Guayaquil in the evening
On day five we will spend the morning in the Lodge and transport to Guayaquil in the afternoon (4 hours). The morning is yours to relax in the Lodge, ask any remaining questions that you may have, and wander the gardens.
Upon arriving in Guayaquil, we will check-in to a comfortable rental so that you can prepare for the second half of this adventure.
Day 6: Arrival to Puerto Lopez
Puerto Lopez is a mid-sized coastal town located in the heart of the Machalilla National Park in the Manabí providence. Sun, local flavors, and authentic coastal Ecuadorian lifestyle– these are just three of the things you’ll get to enjoy in Puerto Lopez.
This attractive fishing village has a population of approximately 16,000 residents. However, aside from being just a fishing community, Puerto Lopez is an important jump-off point for a long list of ecotourism activities which we will experience in full during our time here. Popular attractions located in and around Puerto Lopez include Isla de Plata, the indigenous village of Agua Blanca, and Los Frailes Beach. Puerto Lopez also draws hundreds of tourists from June to October as the local waters are sites for whale watching.
On the way from Guayaquil, will stop for lunch Montañita, Ecuador’s top surfing destination. Montañita is a fun town filled with great restaurants, lively bars, and travelers from all around the world. Once we arrive in Puerto Lopez from Guayaquil, you are free to explore the town, try some of the local cuisines, have a drink at one of the beach cabanas, or even make friends with some of the locals.
Day 7: Real estate tour or optional tour to Isla de la Plata
On day seven we will take a tour of some of the fantastic properties that are available in the area. From 2 bedroom and 1-bedroom homes to future projects that will soon be breaking ground, you will get the ins and outs of living on the coast. Just as we went over every aspect of real estate in Yunguilla, we will answer all of your questions and help you get an idea of how you can make a smart real estate investment on the coast.
If you’d prefer to take a tour to the Isla de la Plata, there is also that option. Leaving at 9:00 am, a boat takes you to the island that sits about 40km away. At the island, you will have a guided tour that explains the history of the island and all of the unique wildlife that calls this place home. After the island and a small lunch, you will boat to another location where you can snorkel and get a first-hand look at the colorful fish, giant sea turtles, and maybe even manta rays that populate the waters. On the way back to shore, keep your eyes open because Humpback Whales are known for jumping out of the water in the months of June – September. Guides will give you plenty of opportunities to snap a picture.
Day 8: Los Frailes Beach in the Machalilla National Park
Los Frailes beached is known for being one of Ecuador’s most beautiful beaches. Sitting just five minutes north of Puerto Lopez, with three different beaches of different colored sand, on day eight we will visit this one-of-a-kind destination. A guided hike will take you to some astounding lookout points as well as the black sand beach and the pink sand beach. The trek ends at the main white sand beach, and you will have time to relax, swim in the clear blue waters, snorkel, and soak up some sun.
Day 9: Relax day or optional visit to Agua Blanca Indigenous Community
On day nine you can either relax in Puerto Lopez or visit the indigenous village of Agua Blanca. In Agua Blanca, you will learn about one of the most ancient civilizations in South America and the traditions and customs that they follow. A small walk through the forest with birdwatching along the way will lead you to a natural sulfur lagoon known for having healing powers. You will have time to enter the spring or even enjoy a massage with the natural mud or Palo Santo oil (additional cost). Once you are completely relaxed, you will head back to Puerto Lopez for a final farewell dinner.
